Teaser Day 5: Going Under by Georgia Cates
Going Under Teaser #5
Claire Deveraux’s POV
He looks concerned when I don’t make a move toward the bed. “Are
you sure this is what you want?”
I nod because I’m rendered speechless by the anticipation of
sharing a bed with this beautiful man tonight.
I walk to my side of the bed and we turn back the linens,
climbing in together. I roll onto my side to face him and prop my head in my
hand. My bedside lamp gives off a dim glow but it’s enough to allow me a good
look at him.
I examine his tattoo first. This is the first time I’ve had the
opportunity to really look at it in its entirety. It extends much further
into his shoulder and chest than I guessed. I trace its intricate detail with
my fingertips.
He smiles as my fingers glide over his skin. “Why are you so
fascinated by my ink? It’s just a tattoo.”
“I’m not fascinated. I just really like it—a lot. I love what it
says about you.”
“What exactly does it say about me?” he asks.
I trace a black curve with my finger. “That you don’t care what
anyone thinks. You’re living for you, not everyone else or what they want for
you.”
“I think you’re reading more into it. I really got it so the
ladies would think I’m hot.” He smirks.
I feel a pang of jealousy when I think of Jesse with another
girl touching him this way. “Just how many girls have seen your whole
tattoo?” I’m questioning him about girls seeing his tattoo, but what I’m
really asking is an entirely different question.
“Don’t go there, Claire. You won’t like the answer.” This is his
way of warning me I won’t be able to handle the truth. Maybe I can’t. The
thought of him sleeping with another girl makes me sick.

Teasers Day 4: Going Under & Shallow by Georgia Cates
Going Under Teaser #4
Claire Deveraux’s POV
Once we’re started on the assignment, I catch Jesse staring at
me. Suddenly self-conscious, I run my palms down each of my cheeks. “What are
you looking at? Do I have something on my face?”
“You do.” He reaches out, grazing the back of his fingers
against my cheek. “You’ve got a little beautiful right there.”
The heat rises because I’m not used to such direct compliments.
Forbes doesn’t do romantic. He’s too busy planning how he’ll get what he
wants from me.
“You want to kiss me, don’t you?” God, do I ever.
He’s daring—and I love it—so I decide to return the boldness.
“You have no idea how much.”
He isn’t going to back down. I see his determination but as I
recall, he warned me about that. “I bet I have a pretty good idea since I
probably want to kiss you just as much. Maybe more.”
We’re alone—most likely safe from being seen—but not guaranteed
so it makes it so much more exciting. The thrill of being caught by someone
makes my heart pump faster. I look into his pale blue eyes, willing him to
lean forward and take the kiss I’m prepared to give him.
“I’ll do it,” he threatens.
“Then stop talking about it.” I know the sure-fire way to seal
the deal. “I dare you.”
Bingo. I see it in his eyes. He’s in full-on badass mode. “I
warned you I don’t back down.”
“That’s what I’m counting on.”
I imagine him leaning forward to steal a quick kiss but he
doesn’t. He takes my hand and leads me across the library. He looks in every
direction before opening a door and pulling me into a storage room I didn’t
know existed. He shuts the door behind us and locks it.
Oh God. What’s he going to do?
He places his hands around my waist and pulls me close, our
faces almost touching. “Believe me yet?”
“No. I need more proof.”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
He places sweet, soft kisses on my lips and my legs threaten to
crumble beneath me. His mouth migrates to my neck and up to my ear where he
sucks my lobe. I let him because I know the door is locked.
Shallow Teaser #4
Payton Archer’s POV
“Okay, if you say …” That’s all I get out
because Nick grabs the back of my neck and pulls me toward him, stretching
halfway for a kiss. He presses his lips against mine and a fire rages that
has nothing to do with the aftermath of pepper spray.
I open my mouth a little and he slides his
tongue in between my teeth to tease me so I’ll open wider. He slides up to
sit and turns his head to the side so his tongue can join mine in a romantic
waltz. He tastes like mint with a hint of spice, sort of like pepper. The
realization makes me smile and I feel him grin against my mouth.
His hands are on each side of my face and I
revel in the moment. It’s the kind of kiss I’ve always longed for. It’s
perfect in all ways but one. He’s a total player.
A car starts outside and I jerk away. Must
be his dad. How did he get past us? I never even heard the door open.
Nick holds my face and I can feel his breath
against my lips. “I’ve gotta go. Your dad is waiting.”
“He’ll wait,” he says breathlessly as he
leans forward to possess my mouth again. I stop him by pressing my forehead
to his.
“It’s rude to keep him waiting.”
He rubs his thumbs up and down my cheeks.
“Can I call you tomorrow?”
I don’t respond. I only nod and he smiles
because it’s the answer he wants. I halfway expect—and maybe even hope—he’ll
pull me in for another kiss. He doesn’t, so I walk out the front door without
looking back. I’m afraid I’ll run back for more if I do.

Teasers Day 3: Going Under & Shallow by Georgia Cates
Going Under Teaser #3
Jesse Boone’s POV
Somewhere between Point A and Point B, something has gone
astray. Screwing Claire was the perfect vengeance against Forbes but spending
time with her has changed everything. I didn’t plan on liking her so much—or
at all—but I do. I wasn’t supposed to become emotionally involved but I have.
I drive away from her tonight realizing my heart doesn’t care a thing about
my original intentions.
She thinks I pulled away because I was on the verge of ravishing
her. That much is true but it isn’t why I needed to distance myself. I want
her in a different kind of way––one I’m not good enough for and requiring me
to give more of myself than I’m willing to share.
She was freely giving herself to me tonight. I never expected
that. I’m stoked about it––but spooked as well.
Once I’m home, I lie in bed recalling the taste of her skin and
the breathless way she allowed me to kiss her. I wanted her more than air in
my lungs and that’s a problem. It means I’ve lost sight of the prize. I no
longer desire screwing her as a way to get to Forbes. I want her for myself.
I need to get a grip. To have a girl like Claire means allowing
her to be a part of my life, and I’m not willing to go there. I can’t risk
her knowing my past, or even my present. I can’t bear seeing my true self in
her eyes.
Shallow Teaser #3
Nick Hawke’s POV
I lick my lips as I look at her shiny gloss, imagining how soft
and slick her mouth would be against mine. I’ve never wanted to lean in for a
kiss so badly in all my life. Being at the top of this Ferris wheel with her
couldn’t be more perfect but I can’t do it. I’m too scared.
I’m Nick Hawke—a sexpert and fearless daredevil—but that doesn’t
matter. I’m too chickenshit to kiss this girl because she’s wonderful and
perfect and different—everything I never knew I wanted—so I don’t want to
blow it by pushing too hard, too fast.
The wheel stops to load another couple. “I’m sorry I didn’t say
this already, but thank you for taking care of my drunk ass last night. I
didn’t think I’d get wasted after two drinks. Guess I drank them too fast.”
I reach for her hand and give it a squeeze. “I didn’t mind. It
was my pleasure—puke and all.”
She shakes her head while looking down. “Liar.” She laughs. “The
whole thing with Cooper was stupid. I guess I tried to make him be my version
of Jesse. I know that’s a weird thing to say. I’m sort of messed up that
way.” She looks up at me. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I told you that.”
Claire’s right. She’s seeing her relationship with Cooper for
what it is.
All the carriages are loaded so we rise and fall as the wheel
rotates. A gust of wind picks up as we soar to the top. A wild strand of hair
blows into her face, sticking in her lip gloss. I can’t resist the excuse to
touch her so I reach forward to set it free.
All I can taste and breathe is this moment with her. Our time
together will be over soon and I don’t want to go home without telling her I
have to see her again.
I twirl the wild strand around my fingers before tucking it
behind her ear. “You told me you wouldn’t go out with me because you were
looking for something different, but you’re here with me now.”
A painful expression crosses her face. “You’ve been really sweet
to me and I’ve had a wonderful time with you tonight—as a friend—but we can
never be more than that. You’ve gone through too many girls.”
“I used protection every time without fail. I swear I haven’t
caught anything, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
She’s blushing. Shit. I think I’ve embarrassed her. “I’m glad to
hear that you had the good sense to practice safe sex but that’s not what I
mean. I’m looking for something lasting and you’re looking for your next
romp.”
She has this all wrong. “I know that’s what you think, but I’m
not.”
“You are, and I’m a quest. I won’t flip on to my back for you
and it’s driving you crazy because it’s new territory.”
“That’s not true.”
“It’s only a matter of time before you grow tired of me and move
on to the next chase. If we leave well enough alone, we’ll walk away from
this unscathed. We might even be friends.”
I want to be so much more than friends. I want Payton Archer for
reasons other than sex.
I am being honest with myself about what I really want for the
first time in a long time.
“You’re wrong, but it’s going to take a while for you to see
that. In the meantime, I’ll take your friendship.”

Teasers Day 2: Going Under & Shallow by Georgia Cates
Going Under Teaser #2
Claire Deveraux’s POV
He leans away so he can see my face. “I haven’t
heard this song in a long time. What’s the name of it?”
“‘Kiss Me.’” I know it like the back of my hand.
I’ve listened to it a million times.
“I thought you’d never ask.” He releases my hand
and waist and places both palms on my face. He pulls me closer for our first
kiss but doesn’t start at my lips. He teases me first, trailing his lips
along my neck below my ear. My whole body tingles. I breathe deeply, lightheaded
as he moves lower on my neck and then around to the other side.
When he finishes torturing me, he moves his
mouth across my jaw toward my lips. Even his breathing has deepened.
But it’s my turn to torment him.
I tease him, pulling my mouth just out of reach
each time he advances. He groans after several attempts and suddenly tugs me
so close I can’t escape. And I don’t want to.
His mouth claims mine, and I allow him. He
tastes minty, not a trace of smoke, and I’m surprised.
I smile against his lips when he stops. “You
tricked me. You said you wouldn’t kiss me until I asked you to.”
“‘Kiss me.’ Those were your words. I was only
doing what you told me since I know a princess can throw a fit when she
doesn’t get her way.”
We’re still standing in the middle of the field
so I walk backward, pulling him with me until we’re at his truck, my back
pressed against the door. “Now I’m telling you to do it again.”
He kisses my forehead and each of my cheeks
before finally getting to my mouth. He deepens our kiss and takes my breath
away. My head spins as I wrap my arms around his shoulders and squeeze
tightly. I yank his body hard against mine, crushing my breasts against his
chest. I lift my chin, giving him full access to my neck.
The way he makes me feel is insane, like I would
let him do anything he wants to me in this moment. I’ve never felt anything
like this in my life.
“Claire, I need a minute.”
He steps away and runs his hands through his
hair. He takes a deep breath and then blows it out slowly.
“Are you okay?”
He’s standing several feet away with his fingers
laced over the top of his head, looking up at the night sky. “Yeah, but you
may not be if we don’t stop now.”
His words spark an excitement in me because I
understand his meaning. He wants
me. Bad. And I realize I don’t want to be okay
if it means he’s going to stop here.
Shallow Teaser #2
Nick Hawke’s POV
I push
aside a lock of hair in her face. I’m thinking she can’t be more beautiful
but then she smiles and proves me wrong.
“You’re
so damn beautiful.” I blurt it without thinking.
Where
did that come from? I’ve never told any girl anything like that before––not
even to get what I wanted from her.
She
doesn’t say a word as she returns my stare.
This
is a night of firsts for me. I’ve told a girl she’s beautiful––and meant it.
Now, I’m about to ask her out on a date––a real one––because I like her and
she’s interesting, not so I can get her into my back seat.
“I
would really like to take you out.” She doesn’t reply. “I know Jesse’s told
you to be leery of me but I promise I’ll be on my best behavior. I’ll be a …
saint.” That brings a grin to her face. “You can choose where we go and what
we do. Dinner? Movie? You name it. We’ll do whatever you want.”
Pleading
for a date isn’t something I’ve ever done. I’m standing before this girl
waiting for an answer with the highest of hopes.
Our
slow song ends and “Scream” by Usher comes on. But I don’t let her go. We
stand in the middle of the dance floor and I wait for her agreement.
“No.”
That’s all she gives me before pushing away and leaving me staring after her.

Jesse Boone is a self-proclaimed bad boy and
doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum but his own. Growing up in less than
desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life but his
determination to leave it behind is fervent. He sees an opportunity to snag a
college football scholarship when he’s transferred to East Franklin High School
but Forbes Henderson has other plans. The player Jesse intends to replace doesn’t
plan on giving up his spot as starting quarterback so a rivalry is born. Jesse
is determined to show his nemesis that he’s not only going to take his position
as first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too.
Claire Deveraux is perfection at its best. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and unaware she just became Jesse Boone’s conquest to settle a score with her boyfriend. Like her flawless performance as the perfect daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has everyone fooled, except Jesse Boone. She fears this tattooed bad boy will see her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises of rocking her perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jesse, will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jesse learn that the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?

Nick Hawke wants his car fast and his girls
faster. He blows through them quicker than his muscle car races down the drag
strip in Collinsville and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s determined to
avoid the devastation he has watched his father endure in the aftermath of his
mother’s abandonment. He believes there is no room in his life or his heart for
a relationship lasting more than one night. He seeks happiness in things that
won’t let him down––fast cars, adrenaline highs, and one night stands. All of
that changes when he unexpectedly runs into an old friend and is introduced to
Payton Archer, the first girl he ever wanted for more than a night. There’s
only one catch––she’s completely immune to him and his smooth talking ways.
Payton Archer is looking for love––the true, mad, deep kind. She’s given up on finding it, at least until she leaves for college because she’s certain that is where she’ll find the ideal guy to fit into her perfect world. Her summer plans include nothing more than three uneventful months of fun but it turns out to be anything but ordinary when Payton meets Nick Hawke, one of Jesse’s old Collinsville friends. She’s shocked by her immediate and intense attraction for “Hawke” because nothing about him is on her checklist for the perfect love. Sure, he’s hot and sexy but he comes from Collinsville and that is definitely not on her list of prerequisites. Everything about him makes Payton’s heart speed. He’s exciting and dangerous but his fast car and chance taking aren't what scares Payton the most. It’s the way Nick Hawke makes her feel every time he looks at her. Can Payton find the courage to leave the safe, shallow end of love and risk going under completely?
